St. Mark in the news

The Observer Palm Coast, Florida; Feb. 25, 2010—

On Monday Feb. 22, St. Mark Christian Day School celebrated Black History Month by honoring two famous African American women, Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks.

Gwen Fiore (pictured) taught the students how Tubman risked her life to lead former slaves to safety on the underground railroad. Mona Styles played the role of Rosa Parks and taught the children about the beginning of the civil rights movement in the United States.

The children sang spirituals such as “Let My People Go” and “Go Down, Moses.” Also participating in the program were the praise dancing team of Kaneatha and her daughter Destiny, Ms. Maggie Fischer, Board of Education member, and Ms. Janice Collier, Day School Director.

Piece Corps quilters

Every Wednesday at 9:00 A.M. the women of St. Mark by the Sea gather to make quilts to give to those in need. Each quilt is lovingly assembled and then a special dove block is sewn on as the women's “signature” before it is sent on its way.
