Pastor Vince Iocona

Our Story

Soon after the first families settled in the new development called Palm Coast in the early 1970s, residents started worshipping at Lutheran services held at the original yacht club. St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church was chartered in 1974 with 40 of those community members, led by Pastor Marc Otterbein.

A new sanctuary was built on Palm Coast Parkway and was dedicated on July 4, 1976 (the country’s 200-year anniversary.) St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church was the first church building to be erected in Palm Coast. Although it was a Lutheran church, the membership included many Protestant faiths looking for weekly worship and fellowship.

In July 1996, we expanded and dedicated our larger sanctuary, where we worship today. The previous church space was divided into Sunday School classes and a preschool that has been in operation for close to 40 years.

The church buildings and the membership dynamics have changed over the years, as has the city of Palm Coast.

What has remained constant in our history is our shared Christian faith and a welcoming and loving congregation. Our members contribute their time and talents supporting our mission to ‘Belong, Believe, Serve’ through our choir and music program, local community service and outreach programs, and the preschool. All this activity is conducted under the beautiful oak trees that still shade our property after 40 years.

We welcome you to become a part of our future.
